Privacy Policy

Effective: August 2026

Paperly is built around one principle: your documents belong to you. That is why every PDF tool runs entirely in your web browser.

Your files stay on your device

Paperly performs all PDF processing client-side using open-source PDF engines. When you select a file, its bytes are read by JavaScript running in your browser tab and are never transmitted over the network.

What we do not collect

We do not upload, store, or analyze your documents. We cannot access the files you process. We do not require an account or an email address.

Analytics

We may record anonymous, privacy-safe events (such as "merge tool used" or "download completed"). These events never include file contents, file names or any document data. Analytics can be disabled in your browser settings.

When analytics are enabled, anonymous events may be forwarded to Google Analytics 4 (a third-party analytics service) with IP anonymization enabled. These events contain no file contents, file names or document data. You can disable analytics in your browser settings.

Security

The site ships with a Content-Security-Policy (CSP) and nosniff/X-Frame-Options headers, and is served over HTTPS when deployed. No server-side document processing infrastructure exists for your files.

Data retention and deletion

We do not retain your documents. Files are held in browser memory only while you work and are discarded when the tab closes or the page reloads. There is no database, no server-side copy and nothing for us to delete later. The only data stored on your device is your own preference for whether anonymous analytics events are enabled.

Third-party services

No third-party service receives your files, because files never leave your browser. The site itself is served from our own hosting and loads fonts, styles and code from that same hosting. If we later add third-party services (for example analytics tooling), this policy will be updated before they are introduced.

Policy updates

If this policy changes, the “Effective” date at the top of this page will be updated and the change will be recorded in the changelog. Material changes will be called out there. We encourage you to check back occasionally.
